Volunteer Testimonials

“I have been volunteering at SPWC for a number of years and keep returning because it’s such an amazing experience.  The people are wonderful and the opportunities I have had to help care for wildlife and make a difference in my own environment are very fulfilling.  I encoucedarwaxwings [640x480][1]rage anyone who can commit their time on a regular basis to get involved!”          -Rebecca Coupland
“I retired with my husband to Napanee 5 years ago.  After reading in the local paper that SPWC was looking for volunteers, I decided to give it a try. I have always had an appreciation for wildlife, and have great respect for the work Sandy Pines does.
We have a dedicated group of volunteers that pour their heart and soul into helping the animals and supporting the Center. The rotation of interns from around the world always adds new personalities and perspectives to the Center. The volunteers are an essential part of the staff, and the work we do is extremely rewarding.”

“This will be my 9th year volunteering at SPWC and to me it is all about giving back and trying to make a difference. Wildlife is affected daily by human activity and we need to do all we can to help.

I have learned a lot from my years at SPWC, to value every living creature as an individual, that there are a lot of people who truly do care and that I can make a difference no matter how small. I get a lot of satisfaction just from cleaning a patient’s cage so that it makes them a little more comfortable. It takes a lot of people to run the centre and I volunteer to help in any way I can (there is always something you can do). Volunteering gives me a sense of satisfaction, a sense of really participating in change and of really making a difference in the lives of these animals.

I have also had the opportunity to return an Osprey to a nest, visit the Vineland Owl Foundation, drive a bear cub to a sanctuary and rescue a Young Peregrine Falcon. I love being a volunteer at SPWC .”
